Every year, Fire term rolls around and I feel it straight away.
The focus.
The energy.
The pull to do more, be more, push harder.
And if I’m honest… that’s both my strength and my downfall.
Because I am naturally fiery.
I commit.
I go all in.
I don’t give up easily.
I have staying power, loyalty, discipline.
But I also have a tendency to overcommit, overextend, and only realise I need to rest when it’s already too late.
Fire, for me, is both my superpower and my kryptonite.
WHEN FIRE BURNS TOO HOT
Over the years, I’ve seen this pattern play out again and again.
Work takes over.
I tell myself it’s necessary.
It’s how I support my family, grow the studio, create opportunities.
And all of that is true.
But if I’m not careful, it comes at a cost.
My health.
My relationships.
My own practice.
The very things that matter most… quietly get pushed to the side.
Not because I don’t care.
But because I care so much, I keep saying yes.
WHAT I’M CHOOSING DIFFERENTLY
This year feels different.
Not because I’m doing more.
But because I’m doing it with more intention.
I’m turning 50 next year, and something about that has sharpened everything.
I’m not interested in spreading myself thin anymore.
I’m interested in:
- Being clear on what I actually want
- Naming it
- Getting support instead of doing everything myself
- And taking action on what matters most
Not everything.
Just the things that actually move the needle.
In my health.
In my home.
In the studio.
TAKING IMPERFECT ACTION
One of the biggest shifts for me has been this:
I’m no longer waiting to feel ready.
Because if I’ve learned anything, it’s that readiness is unreliable.
Action is what creates clarity.
Action is what builds momentum.
And most of the time?
It’s not perfect.
It’s:
- starting before I’ve figured it all out
- doing what I can with the time and energy I have
- showing up even when I feel a bit scattered or unsure
Because imperfect action still moves you forward.
Waiting does not.
BOUNDARIES ARE PART OF THE FIRE
This has been the uncomfortable part.
Because I’m not naturally great at boundaries.
I care deeply.
I take things to heart.
I get emotionally involved.
But without boundaries, fire doesn’t stay contained.
It spreads.
And eventually… it burns everything.
So this term, part of my practice isn’t just showing up.
It’s protecting my energy.
Being clearer in how I communicate.
Not over-explaining.
Not over-giving.
Not saying yes to everything.
That’s not selfish.
That’s sustainable.
BUILDING A FIRE THAT LASTS
A strong fire doesn’t come from chaos.
It comes from the right conditions.
You need:
- space (clearing what’s unnecessary)
- fuel (what actually supports you)
- oxygen (breath, space, recovery)
Too much of anything, and it stops working.
This is why our practice matters.
The movement.
The breath.
The structure.
It gives us a way to work with our energy, instead of being run by it.
WHY FIRE TERM MATTERS
Fire term builds on everything we’ve already created.
Earth gave us grounding.
Now Fire asks us to move.
To take action.
To build strength.
To create momentum.
But not in a way that burns us out.
In a way that supports us long term.
YOUR PRACTICE THIS TERM
This term isn’t about doing it perfectly.
It’s about doing it consistently.
It’s about:
- showing up when it would be easier not to
- doing the practice you can, not the one you think you should
- building trust in yourself through action
Because every time you show up, you’re casting a vote for the person you want to become.
START NOW
You don’t need more time.
You don’t need more motivation.
You don’t need a perfect plan.
You just need to begin.
Messy.
Imperfect.
Real.
That’s where the transformation actually happens.
