Live and Breathe Yoga Townsville
Amy’s relationship with yoga began as a teenager, thanks to a GP’s suggestion to help manage her exercise-induced asthma. At the time, her background in dance meant the physical side of yoga came easily—but that early introduction didn’t quite stick.
“I was the youngest person there, and I found everything ‘easy,’” she recalls. “So I got bored and gave it up after a few sessions.”
Years later, yoga would find its way back into her life, this time in a much deeper and more personal way. Through pre- and post-natal classes, then sound healing sessions during the haze of new motherhood, yoga slowly re-entered her world. When post-natal anxiety took hold, yoga became less of a curiosity and more of a lifeline.
“There were so many mornings when I couldn’t sleep,” Amy said. “I’d roll out a mat or towel and just move and breathe—and then breathe and move. It helped me come back to myself.”
“I was about to turn 40, managing my anxiety better—and ready for something new.”
When Amy first learned about the immersion and yoga teacher training at Live and Breathe Yoga, she found herself standing at a crossroads. She was curious about both yoga and pilates, but one conversation helped her find clarity.
“I met with Allison before enrolling, and she was just wonderful. She answered all my questions and helped calm any doubts I had,” Amy shared.
While pilates training was only offered online, the Live and Breathe Yoga yoga immersion and teacher training program was in person—something that matched the way Amy learns best. That hands-on support, community connection, and personal guidance made the decision easy.
“I never looked back.”
Transformation in Every Step of the Journey
Amy went into the program with no intention of taking the yoga teacher training component. Her goal was simple: to do something for herself. But as the teachings unfolded, something shifted.
“The whole process was transformative. I loved everything—the structure of the course, the content, the way each session flowed,” she said. “I learnt so much, and I loved the journey from start to finish.”
That growth—both personal and practical—ended up being the foundation she needed to step into yoga teaching with confidence.
Stepping into the Role with Surprising Joy
Though she hadn’t planned to teach, Amy found herself more than ready when the time came.
“Allison combined practical and theoretical elements so well,” she said. “By the end, I felt like I had the tools I needed to begin teaching yoga —and I’m so thrilled that I did.”
Now, Amy teaches at Live and Breathe Yoga and runs weekly yoga sessions for fellow teachers at her high school. After nearly two decades in education, yoga teaching has given her a fresh way to connect—with herself and with others.
“It’s allowed me to step into a familiar role, but from a totally different perspective.”
“You might discover more than you thought was possible.”
When asked what she’d say to someone who’s curious but unsure whether they’re ready for the immersion or teacher training, Amy’s answer is clear:
“I don’t think you’re ever truly ready—because we’re all so good at finding reasons why now isn’t the right time. But the right time is when you start.”
Whether you’re looking to deepen your practice, develop tools to manage anxiety, or simply take on a new challenge, Amy believes the journey is worth it.
“You don’t have to know exactly why you’re doing it. You just have to be willing to begin. And along the way, you might discover more than you ever thought was possible.”
