Live and Breathe Yoga Townsville
Twenty years ago, Terese was working as a nurse in aged care, juggling physically demanding shifts and the emotional toll of the job. The constant heavy lifting had left her with intense back pain—and a reliance on pain medication just to get through the day.
“My massage therapist suggested I try yoga,” she remembers. “And it worked. The pain started to ease, and I finally found some relief.”
What began as a tool for physical healing soon grew into something deeper. Alongside the movement, it was the moments of stillness—meditation, breath, rest—that helped her through the mental strain of study and the stress of her career.
“I found the meditation really helpful when I was dealing with study pressures and the emotional demands of nursing.”
“I wanted to teach… but I couldn’t leave my family to train elsewhere.”
Over time, yoga became a steady part of Terese’s life—and so did the quiet longing to share it with others. But like many working parents, travel and time away just wasn’t an option.
“I really wanted to do teacher training, but nothing felt accessible to me,” she said. That was, until a friend at yoga mentioned Live and Breathe Yoga.
Terese jumped online, read glowing reviews, and picked up the phone.
“I rang Allison straight away to find out more about the course,” she said. “She explained that the training is registered with Yoga Australia and focused on supporting quality, professional teaching. I had a really good feeling after that conversation.”
Beyond the Poses: Learning the True Heart of Yoga
While Terese already had a long-standing physical yoga practice, the deeper layers of yoga philosophy were new terrain.
“The most transformative part of the training was learning about the other limbs of yoga—not just the physical practice, but the tools for living a more conscious life off the mat,” she said. “So many other trainings don’t go into that, but Allison really brought it to life.”
That knowledge, paired with a solid foundation in anatomy, gave Terese the clarity and confidence to finally step into teaching.
“Allison’s supportive nature made a big difference. I wouldn’t be teaching now if it weren’t for her.”
Finding Her Voice—and Confidence
Teaching yoga has transformed Terese in unexpected ways.
“I used to be terrified of speaking in front of an audience,” she said. “Now I feel more confident, calmer—and like a better version of myself, both on and off the mat.”
Whether it’s leading a yoga class or showing up at work, Terese has found strength in her own voice.
“Just do it. The journey will be amazing.”
When asked what she’d say to someone thinking about training but doubting whether they’re ready, Terese’s answer is short and clear:
“Just do it. The journey will be amazing.”
Like so many others who’ve trained at Live and Breathe Yoga, Terese didn’t wait for the perfect moment—she just listened to the quiet nudge that said this was the right path.
And it turns out, it was.
