From Lego Masters to the Yoga Mat: How Brickman Inspired Me to Step Up
I’ve been watching Lego Masters with my daughter lately, and I’ve been blown away. Not just by the jaw-dropping builds, but by what it takes for the contestants to create them. And don’t get me started on Brickman. What a guy! The crafting of imaginative, intricate pieces that would normally take days… in a matter of hours. It’s next-level focus, teamwork, and creative fire under pressure.
And it got me thinking: what if we all pushed ourselves like that? What if we stopped waiting for the “perfect moment” or the “ideal conditions,” and just started building one brick, one breath, one practice at a time?
In yoga, there’s a common misconception that it’s all about slowing down, taking it easy, and giving yourself a break. And yes, sometimes that is the yoga choosing rest, choosing softness, choosing compassion.
But yoga is also a discipline. It’s showing up when you don’t feel like it. It’s holding the pose a little longer, breathing through the discomfort, trying postures that seem impossible and noticing the part of you that reacts to the discomfort.
It’s not about punishment. It’s about not letting yourself off the hook when you know you’re capable of more.
Just like the Lego builders, we don’t need more time, we need more presence. We need to trust that when we commit, when we focus, when we put the phone down, when we stop cancelling the early morning session and just get on our yoga mat, something really good is about to happen. It might not be made of tiny plastic bricks, but it will be a masterpiece.
So here’s your reminder:
- You’re allowed to rest and also try harder.
- You can be kind to yourself and challenge yourself.
- You can take it slow and be incredibly disciplined.
Don’t confuse self-care with self-sabotage.
Your yoga practice can be your soft place to land but it can also be the place where you become your strongest self. Your yoga mat can be your own personal research station where you can process, undo, figure things out, fall over and get back up again. If your tendency is to give up in the name of self care whenever life throws a curve ball then try something different.
I have been really diving into all the ways I have been a self saboteur and woah have I been reckless with my excuses. The only thing holding me back from 90% of my struggles is me. Sometimes I forget how powerful I am until I look back and see all the things I have overcome so far. I get so caught up in where I am not to forget where I came from. Thanks to lego masters for the reminder to get amongst it and to keep going even when I might have to knock it all down and start again.
Come build with us.
