Live and Breathe Yoga Townsville

Lizzy first came to yoga not through a studio, but through her work as a physiotherapist. In her early days working in Charters Towers, she noticed a pattern—several local GPs were recommending yoga to patients, and she kept hearing how helpful it could be for both body and mind. Curious, she gave it a try using a yoga app and quickly felt the benefits for herself.

The physical movements, the breath awareness, and the deep rest at the end left her feeling balanced and better equipped for the demands of daily life. But when she moved back to Townsville and discovered Live and Breathe Yoga, everything shifted.

“It wasn’t just about the movement anymore—it became a lifestyle.”

At Live and Breathe Yoga, Lizzy started to uncover the depth and philosophy of yoga. The practice began to move off the mat and into her life. As she immersed herself more in the community and teachings, the decision to do teacher training became clearer.

Though she had once dreamed of going to India for her training, it was the announcement that Allison would be offering a training program locally that truly sealed the deal.

“I had the utmost confidence in her from being a student at the studio,” Lizzy said. “So that gave me the oomph to do it then—and I’m so happy I did. I’ve been a teacher with LBY ever since.”

A Journey Within: Discovering the Power of Self-Study

While Lizzy came to the course already passionate about the practice, she didn’t expect the powerful impact of svadhyaya—self-study.

“The most transformative part for me was taking the time to reflect and delve into Eastern philosophy. It’s shaped who I am today.”

Learning to sit with ancient texts and teachings created space for new insights and helped her align more deeply with her values—not just as a teacher, but as a person.

Gaining the Tools and the Confidence to Teach

Lizzy found the teaching component of the program gave her a strong, practical foundation. The training not only supported her in understanding how to teach to a room of individuals with varied needs, it also provided a structure she could return to again and again.

“My biggest takeaway was realising that if I had a beginning, peak, and end to my class—I’d have a successful class. That simplified things enough that I could step into the role with confidence.”

It was never about being perfect. It was about learning to trust the process, the structure, and herself.

“You’re never really ready—but that’s kind of the point.”

When asked what she’d say to someone hesitating on whether they’re “ready” for immersion or teacher training, Lizzy offers the kind of advice that lands like truth.

“Sounds corny, but honestly—you’re never ready. Providing you have space in your life to prioritise your learning, then you are ready. Buckle down and enjoy the journey of self—because that’s what it is. Epic.”

A Purposeful Path: Teaching as a Career and Calling

Since graduating, Lizzy has continued to teach at Live and Breathe Yoga, where she shares her love for the practice in a way that’s both accessible and deeply informed by her physiotherapy background.

“Personally, I’ve found it amazing to be able to share the benefits yoga offers me so it can hopefully do the same for others,” she said. “Professionally, it challenges me to think creatively about how to adapt traditional styles so everyone feels confident to practise.”

She describes her teaching career as not just rewarding—but purposeful.

From a curious physio with a yoga app to a grounded and confident teacher helping others find strength and peace, Lizzy’s journey is proof that you don’t have to wait for the perfect time to begin. You just need to trust that if you’re willing to show up, the rest will unfold.
